iPad 3G recently carrier locked?
Just a few days ago, a friend of mine went to buy me an iPad in the U.S, he asked in both Apple store and Best Buy and they both told him that it’s locked to AT&T!
is that true? or was there a misunderstanding?
is there any record of locked iPads?
do iPads come with an AT&T microsim?
since I’ll be using this iPad in Lebanon & Egypt, a locked iPad 3G is a waste.
Thorough answers are much appreciated – non-U.S residents with iPads 3G help is also much appreciated,
- Edit: didn’t steve jobs mention it’s unlocked in his iPad keynote speech?
That is correct. If you buy a ipad here in the United States it is locked and can only be used with A T&T Wireless. It will not work with any other cell phone provider. The data plan comes from A T&T Wireless.
The ipad comes in two versions. Wi-Fi version only, or if you wish you can buy Wi-Fi and 3G. The ipad Wi-Fi and 3G versions does have a sim card so you can activate it with A T&T Wireless Data Plan.
If you are in a international country you could buy the ipad Wi-Fi version. The Wi-Fi that is built into the ipad will work in any location including international that has a Wi-Fi hotspot.
